This beautifully crafted organic cotton bedspread and matching cushion cover, both trimmed with cream ribbon, are made from a fabric called ‘Boutis’ using Egyptian yarn which was woven, dyed and finished in Italy. The dye used to colour the fabric is of vegetable origin and all treatments used in the finishing process are biodegradable.
Some history…The term Boutis can trace its roots back to twelfth century France where the technique originated and spread throughout Provence. The ‘boutis’ fabrics were worked with a special needle, named ‘boutis’, which gave the ‘relief’ effect on the fabric and makes it look quilted. The technique was known in Italy by the sixteenth century where a layer of filling is inserted between two layers of cotton sewn together. The boutis designs were carefully chosen, featuring traditional symbols such as hearts, birds and flowers to represent happiness, luck and prosperity, initially for clothing then for bedspreads and cushion covers. This Boutis fabric is from Chieri, a centre for the cotton textile industry since the 13th century.
The organic cotton Zafferano boutis is the result of refining this technique that today blends historical craftsmanship with modern technology to create a rich texture and contemporary design which could grace any bed.
The bedspread measures 260cm by 260cm and the matching cushion cover measures 40cm by 40cm.
